Description
Rest in Peace we say at these events
Rest in peace we say at these events, well, there’s a fat chance of doing much else
I’m somewhat stifled in every respect and not really in the best of good health
But thank you for being here, I’d normally have no real role to play
Though I understand why you are here, this is, after all, my very special day

Strange you might think of my speaking like this, death was not a choice I would have madeBut we are where we are, so I’m being pragmatic, my funeral I cannot evade Life’s been an interesting journey, as those close to me will know
What we do, what we say, whether we follow or whether we lead, in life you often reap from what you sow Such is a valuable idiom, as are many which guide us today
I’ll leave you to decide how I turned out though be quick, they are about to take me away Whilst we are all together let me thank you again for coming to my ‘good bye’ event
And should my sense of humour have offended you, bad luck; I ‘m no longer in a position to repent
About the Author
Keith Stokes-Smith was brought up in Solihull, moving to Worcestershire in 1997. Writing poems came easy to him in his twenties and early thirties.
In 2016, his mother passed away. Two weeks later, on a train journey to London, he belatedly wrote a bespoke poem for her funeral and wrote it as if she had composed it to be read out by her at her funeral; a strange concept you might think. From then on he found himself uncontrollably inspired to write more adopting words spoken by fictitious people of fictitious ages in fictitious circumstances. In essence, he has tried to be in the mind of the reader. His poems may be considered somewhat unique coupled very often with them having a sense of humour.
