My thanks to those around me

Description

My thanks to those around me

Knowing as the decades passed the eventuality was today
What is and whether I could have changed it , it’s rather too late now to say
Still, I’ve done some things I wanted, with others still left to do
Too late you say, and yes, too late; well, certainly from my point of view

I strived, I served and succeeded; for that I am content
My thanks to those around me who helped to a great extent

In the scheme of things my life is of no import
No Darwin, Turner or Cook
But alas such folk are a rarity and for none of them have I been mistook

So, I depart with no guilty conscience and mild satisfaction that I’ve done my bit
Together, I hope with a sense of humour and a degree of playfulness and Wit
Goodbye my friends, Goodbye

About the Author

Keith Stokes-Smith was brought up in Solihull, moving to Worcestershire in 1997. Writing poems came easy to him in his twenties and early thirties.

In 2016, his mother passed away. Two weeks later, on a train journey to London, he belatedly wrote a bespoke poem for her funeral and wrote it as if she had composed it to be read out by her at her funeral; a strange concept you might think. From then on he found himself uncontrollably inspired to write more adopting words spoken by fictitious people of fictitious ages in fictitious circumstances. In essence, he has tried to be in the mind of the reader. His poems may be considered somewhat unique coupled very often with them having a sense of humour.
