I will no longer wake in the morning

Description

I will no longer wake in the morning

I will no longer wake in the morning and see the snowflakes fall
Nor look out across the skyline and see the urban sprawl

I can no longer smell the smells of life nor hear the cheeping bird
Nor feel the joys of living or speak the spoken word

Those days have gone, I must move on, making way for others
For today young lives are born into this world, off-spring from their mothers.

Life is now behind me, short or long as it may have been
But then let’s face reality, this outcome was all foreseen
I suppose I must bid a fond farewell, as I hope you would expect of me
And I thank you for being here, I’m soon to set you free
Think well of me if that be just or say or do as you will
My body now deprived of life, motionless and still
I will no longer wake in the morning and share your lives as I did
But please, move on, enjoy your days, anything less than that I forbid.

About the Author

Keith Stokes-Smith was brought up in Solihull, moving to Worcestershire in 1997. Writing poems came easy to him in his twenties and early thirties.

In 2016, his mother passed away. Two weeks later, on a train journey to London, he belatedly wrote a bespoke poem for her funeral and wrote it as if she had composed it to be read out by her at her funeral; a strange concept you might think. From then on he found himself uncontrollably inspired to write more adopting words spoken by fictitious people of fictitious ages in fictitious circumstances. In essence, he has tried to be in the mind of the reader. His poems may be considered somewhat unique coupled very often with them having a sense of humour.
